Communication on a Societal Level, Communication as Culture
The final episode of the fourth unit delves into
communication on a societal level and the concept of communication as culture.
It places a special emphasis on mediatization and digitalization, viewing media
as both tools for communication and structures of communication. Furthermore,
the chapter concludes by asserting that media should be differentiated based on
their functions and types.
Summary of the two main approaches
And here is
a summary of the two main approaches or paradigmatic perspectives on
sustainability communication; they will be further elaborated in the next
lectures.
Further Reading Mediatization
For those
of you who can read some bits in German:
I would recommend to read the texts of
Friedrich Krotz on german, predominantly about his concept of mediatization.
Also, this book talks about mediatization and describes our society and the
media ecology we currently live in: Hepp, A., & Krotz, F. (2014). Mediatized worlds—Understanding
everyday mediatization. In Mediatized worlds(pp. 1-15). Palgrave
Macmillan, London.
