Content of the Course

The course "Sustainable Development - Fundamentals and Implementation" provides an introduction to the guiding principle of sustainable development and discusses the theoretical foundations of weak and strong sustainability as well as the three sustainability dimensions from an economic perspective. On this foundation, questions about the importance of innovations, technical progress and eco-efficiency are then addressed.

Various concepts for measuring and evaluating sustainable development illustrate the different possibilities for quantification. Implementations of sustainability strategies at national and regional level are also highlighted. The integrating sustainability triangle is developed and applied for a systematic combination of the three sustainability dimensions ecology, economy and social issues. An interplay of theory and practical examples provides a successful overview of the guiding principle of sustainable development.
