Content of the Course

In this course, various fields of discourse and action around the topic of diversity will be discussed. These include diversity dimensions and perspectives, intersectionality, various theoretical approaches as well as social, political and legal aspects. References are continuously made to the context of higher education and science, i.e. studies, teaching, research, but other fields of action and contexts are also considered, e.g. labour market, education system.

The course comprises 13 chapters and is roughly oriented towards seven core dimensions of diversity: gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and 'race', religion & belief, dis/ability, age and social origin. Each of the 13 chapters begins with a short introductory video on the topic and usually contains two to three episodes in which the dimensions as well as intersectional perspectives and fields of action from different disciplines are highlighted and discussed.

  • Raising awareness of social dimensions of inequality, power and discrimination
  • Dealing with conditions and forms of exclusion and devaluation
  • Enabling a comprehensive critique of discrimination and dealing with socially effective categories of difference
  • Promoting a diversity-conscious, appreciative and discrimination-critical attitude
  • Getting to know further possibilities and offers to in order to expand and deepen one's own diversity competences beyond the course


Exam Information

To receive a certificate of achievement and credit points, you must complete the course with an electronic examination. You can choose the examination date freely from several options in the semester. The examination takes place in presence at the test centre of the University of Bremen.

Target Group

The event is open to students of all disciplines. The offer is aimed in particular at students of the University of Bremen and Bremen universities. The content is also available as OER for all interested parties.
